Tech Jobs and Non-Tech Jobs
byAkbar RachmanJan 144 min read

We heard a lot about “tech jobs” nowadays. Google has around 4.3 billion search topics related to “tech jobs”.

But what does that mean, exactly? What kind of jobs can be categorized as “tech jobs”? HubbedIn Singapore laid out a bit explanation of technology jobs and its important aspects in a business.

What are tech jobs?

Tech jobs is a short term for technical jobs. It’s a group of jobs that requires more technical skills than soft skills. Nowadays, those technical skills, knowledge, and experience are needed more than ever to create solutions and solve business problems. Its skills are mostly related to computer codes, software apps, network systems and securities, and many more.

Along with the fast-growing sector of IT industry, a vast amount of information can be found by many people. Some of them found opportunities, and started to build their own businesses— started small by building startup companies to fill a particular market gap. Startup companies require fast growth, need tech workforces to accommodate their needs.

These startups have been absorbing many technical jobs for the last couple of years, to support their rapid growth, and that is the reason why we’ve been hearing digital and tech jargons quite a lot lately. You may even have friends or relatives that work in this industry.

It’s also a fact that in the digital world we’re living right now, there is no business, product, or service that can 100% exist without the support of those working in tech jobs.

Below is the example of some tech jobs usually found in companies:

  • Web Developer
  • Digital Marketing Manager
  • SEO Consultant
  • Growth Hacker
  • UI/UX Designer
  • Front-end/Back-end Developer
  • Software Engineer
  • Business Systems Analyst
  • Data Architect
  • Data Analyst
  • Data Scientist
  • Product Manager
  • QA Specialist
  • Mobile App Developer

So, we have tech jobs already. But what about non-tech jobs, and what differentiates them with tech jobs?

Tech jobs vs non-tech jobs

If tech jobs are heavily influenced by and relied on technology and its development, non-tech jobs are not entirely related to technology, but mostly focused on the business. Roles that require strategy planning, business management, finance & cash flow, are one of the many examples of functions that the non-tech jobs can handle.

Here is another fact, no businesses can operate efficiently and systematically without a good mix of tech and non-tech individuals. Both roles have their own advantages and disadvantages, and they are both perfectly completing each other in an organization.

Here’s an example of the non-tech roles in a company:

  • Office Manager
  • Accountant
  • Finance & Tax
  • Legal Counsel
  • Procurement Specialist
  • Marketing Analyst
  • Copywriter
  • Facility Manager
  • Human Resources
  • Public/External Relations
  • Business Development
  • Logistic Manager
